01 Oct How do Wedding Makeup Trials work?
For some brides to be, makeup is one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning, and for some it can feel more daunting. Whichever way it is for you, below are my top tips and recommendations ahead of a bridal makeup trial and how to ensure it is both enjoyable and beneficial.
Your bridal trial is a chance for us to meet, face to face. Your makeup look is one element of your whole look. We will chat through everything and bring your whole bridal look together. It is like a preview to the wedding day look.
#1 Time
This is important in a number of ways. You want to have chosen your wedding dress/outfit, have your overall theme, style and colours decided upon, but also not be too close to the wedding day where other planning is taking up your time. 6months – 6 weeks before your wedding day is the recommended time frame.
Don’t be in a rush at your makeup trial, as clock watching or rushing to another appointment can take away the enjoyment of it.
1.5 hours is an average time to allow for your bridal makeup trial.
#2 Inspiration/Vision
Pictures & screenshots of what you envision are such a great way to show & describe your thoughts & preferences. Makeup can be quite subjective & we all use different words to describe
things that we see, so images are great to visualise & discuss. These should be of people with similar colourings & features to yourself; hair colour, skin tone, eyes, as these will give the most
achievable looks.

Pictures of YOU feeling your best are priceless to understand YOU.
Bring images of your chosen wedding dress/outfit, for me to see.
#3 Skincare
Hydrated skin is paramount for smooth & long wearing makeup. If you have specific skincare concerns, starting your facials & skin treatments, with advice from a skin care specialist before your trial and wedding day can be really worthwhile.
Alternatively, having a simple but most importantly, a regular skincare routine, of removing makeup daily, cleansing skin and moisturising is so beneficial.
#4 Overall Look & Style
Will you be wearing tan on your wedding day? Have you decided on your hairstyle being up or down? Having these done and loosely styled for your trial helps with envisioning the whole look at your makeup trial.
Wear a similar tone & neckline to your wedding dress/outfit, avoiding strong colours or prints as these reflect against your skin tone.
Preferably be makeup free starting your makeup trial.
#5 Your Photographer & Videographer Style
Lighting & exposure can affect how your makeup is portrayed on camera & film. Knowing your photographer and/or videographers style and sharing this with me (Instagram handle/website for images) can help with makeup choices & your desired look that you decide on. For example; light/airy, true colouring or dark/moody. You are better off working with this than against it.
Bridal trials take place on select days, at my studio, in Kingswood, Dublin 24.
I look forward to meeting you, creating your bridal makeup look alongside you, and will tweak and perfect to ensure you look and feel your absolute best for your wedding day.
Please note: trials are a choice and not essential. I have looked after numerous brides over the years without a trial, for various reasons. We can work through decisions and style through email in advance if required.
